When you’re all revved up and raring to go for your holiday, there’s nothing worse than getting stuck in some sort of delay at the airport. Maybe there’s a serious traffic problem on the feeder roads, maybe there’s a strike or maybe there’s some other personnel issue and not enough staff on duty. Or, because everyone is so eager to travel after a couple of years of pandemic-induced staying-put, maybe our airports are just too darn busy these days!
Queueing for hours, hanging around in the departure lounge for hours… It can get way too much, the stress completely taking the edge off your excitement and setting a somewhat negative tone for the early part of your break. There is a really simple solution, and it’s known by a name you will have heard many times over the last couple of years. Yes, we’re talking about the ‘staycation’.
The word basically translates into standard speak as ‘having a holiday in your own country’ – it’s stay, and vacation compounded into a snappy soundbite. And why not? It’s good that the idea has been made more appealing, cooler even, with this modern twist on our language. Whatever age you are, you really don’t have to travel abroad to have a good time or to see something you’ll never forget. The British Isles is one of the most brilliant areas you could possibly explore – and how much of your own country do you really know, or have you really seen? From Land’s End to John O’Groats there is a vast array of wonderful locations just waiting for you to drop by and be awed. The Lake District, the Scottish Highlands, the Yorkshire Dales, the Norfolk Broads… the list goes on, and on.
A really smart way to enjoy regular staycations is to invest in a static caravan. This permanent ‘base’ in an area you love can become a genuine home-from-home. Kitted out with all the necessaries to make your relaxation time as easy as possible, and tweaked to your own particular standards and tastes, a static caravan can be a place to be proud of. Imagine all of those weekends away, and a good few weeks in the summer, enjoying the days and then relaxing at night in a space you can truly call your own.
